Bob Nooney, a longtime Maui Polo Club player was chosen for the USPA Sportsmanship of the year award by the Hawaiian Islands Circuit governor Mike Dailey. It is only the second time that a Maui player has won the award since Herman Louis De Coite was the recipient in 1994.
Bob's performance on and off the field is that of a true gentleman. Dedicated to Polo and raising the bar of involvement with the club, Bob leads quietly by example. We are lucky to have Bob taking care of the little things that make Maui Polo club run smoothly.
Never missing a game or late to a throw-in, you can always count on Bob to be there with his trusty string of horses, every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Bob is the owner of Island Biker, a bicycle shop that has serving Maui's cycling community since 1988.
One of the most fun tournaments during the spring Arena season, the Island Biker Cup has become an annual classic at Maui Polo. The party after the tournament is famous for Bob's secret chili recipe. When he is not exercising his horses, windsurfing, in a bicycle race, fly fishing in New Zealand or working at his shop, Bob can be found at the polo grounds, mowing the field, marking the lines for the penalties and painting the clubhouse and side boards. He seems to make time to get everything ready in time for that Sunday game!
Somehow he has been the official "goal post down have to fix it !" guy for the past 6 or 7 years. On behalf of the Maui Polo Club, I would like to congratulate Bob on winning this much deserved award!
